Our New School BuildingWe are at a very exciting time in the life of Marjory Kinnon School. In March 2018 we moved into a brand new, purpose built, £30 million school building, located behind our former site. The old building will revert to school playing fields after we are settled in our new space.
The new building offers state-of-the-art facilities to our pupils and will enable us to become a three form entry school for children aged four to 16 (Early Years to Key Stage 4). Our pupil numbers will rise steadily over the next few years and at capacity we will have 288 pupils, making us one of the largest SEND schools in the country.
Our new building incorporates fully fitted subject rooms for science, art, food technology, ICT, music and a library. There are dedicated sensory rooms and a therapy suite to support the additional needs of our pupils. The life skills room will support us in teaching independent living skills to our Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils.
The whole school will benefit from the large, dedicated sports hall and two separate canteens for Primary and Secondary pupils. The Primary canteen includes a break out area for Early Years lunches, enabling us to provide extra support to these children in the first stage of their independent school career.
The outside space provides amazing new benefits and opportunities for our school community and includes dedicated outdoor teaching space. Early Years have their own specially designed play space. The Primary area includes a sensory garden, a cycle track, a football pitch and an active area with swings, a climbing frame and sunken trampolines. The Secondary outside space has a more mature feel with outdoor gym equipment and pop up table tennis, a 4G football pitch, a reflections garden for quieter lunchtimes and an Eco Garden to promote an interest in horticulture. We will also have access to a grass playing field located on our site and incorporating full size football pitches.Parents and staff are pleased to see our new car parking area, with over 40 spaces dedicated for parent parking and a further large car park for staff. There is also an area allocated to Local Authority Transport drop off and pick up adjacent to the school, to ensure the safety of our pupils.
