Primary Curriculum
At Marjory Kinnon, the curriculum is adapted from the National Curriculum and individualised to meet the needs of all our pupils. Underpinning the curriculum is a focus on communication, life skills and independence.
We Have Two Curriculum Pathways
These two pathways deliver the same knowledge and content in a sequenced curriculum but with a different approach.
- Semi-Formal Pathway – focuses more on a thematic and contextual approach to support the understanding of our autistic learners. This pathway also includes a multisensory approach with a high focus on life skills and independence. Communication, Speech and Language and Occupational therapies are built into the timetable combined with the pupil’s EHCP targets.
- Formal Pathway – focuses more on National Curriculum subjects taught discretely. The approach also includes a focus on social communication and independent life skills. Learning is delivered in small steps that include Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy and EHCP targets.
Whole School Approach to Learning
Subject Leaders ensure learning is sequenced across the school from EYFS to KS4. To support individual delivery and progress, rotational learning takes place in Maths and English that ensures individual quality learning with the teacher matched to EHCP targets and small-step progress.
KS1 and KS2
From Year 1 to Year 6, learning is provided to the students by adapting the National Curriculum to match their abilities whilst challenging them to achieve their potential. Learning is delivered thematically and within a context to deepen understanding for ASC pupils.
